Azure AD Connect ( AADConnect)  is a great tool to have a common User Identity for Cloud and On Premise Technology Infrastructure.

With most Customers having a mix of On Premise and Cloud based Technology Infrastructure , a common issue which comes up is managing multiple user identities for On Premise Applications and Cloud Applications. Using Azure AD Connect , this can be effectively addressed.

How to Restrict Access to Cloud Services

With every passing day, more and more applications are shifting to the Cloud from On Premise. But with this shift , there are also Data Security and access related questions which come up. Some of the questions that  Customers are asking :

1.  Can we ensure that the access to the Corporate Cloud   is allowed only when the person is in the Office?

2.  Can we allow access to certain applications to only a group of people?

3.  For certain apps , can we have an additional layer of security like a OTP on a mobile phone?

4.  Can we restrict users from accessing Corporate Cloud  using a Mobile App or Mobile browser?

5.  Can we ensure that only Company devices are allowed to access Corporate Cloud Data?

6.  Can we ensure that only the devices which are a part of my Active Directory can access the Cloud?

7.  Can we know which user has accessed what data and at what time?

The good news is that all of the above is possible .

Manage Windows 10 devices with Azure Cloud Active Directory

Many Organizations use “Domain Join”  and connect their PCs to Windows Server in order to manage them better . This is a great feature to manage the PCs in a Local Area Network (LAN). However , we are living in a Cloud Era where many applications are being hosted on the Cloud. The good news is that Windows 10 devices have built in support for Azure Cloud AD so that they directly authenticate to the Cloud based Azure AD .

To know more about how Windows 10 devices can connect to Azure AD and also understand some scenarios where this will be useful, please  click here

And if you do not have Windows 10 devices but have many Windows 7 or 8.1 based PCs, the good news is that you can upgrade to Windows 10 for free upto July 28, 2016.

Common Hybrid Identity for Cloud and On Premise Applications

With Cloud Services gaining greater acceptance , Companies are moving more applications  from On Premise to the Cloud. One issue this is creating is that it leads to creation of Multiple Identities for every user. The Primary Identity is on the Active Directory which is On Premise. In addition , for every Cloud Service used, an additional User Identity is created .

The good news is that we can have a Common Hybrid Identity for On Premise as well as all Cloud Apps . It is based on Azure .

Patch Management for Roaming Users

All of us understand the importance of applying Software Patches on regular basis . We know that if we do not regularly apply Software Patches , we become easy targets for Virus and Cyber attacks. Many Customers have also invested in various Software Tools which help them distribute Software Patches . But most of these tools work only over a LAN and so are setup typically in the Head Office only. As a result the devices of the roaming users are often compromised .

The good news is that there is an excellent Cloud based IT Infrastructure Management Solution which does Patch Management, in addition to host of other things .

Centrally Manage Mobiles, Tablets and Computers with the Cloud

Almost every Company allows users to access Corporate Data from their personal mobiles and tablets and Home Computers.  But one strange fact is that while the I.T. Team takes great care to protect the Work PC by applying patches centrally , locking down the device and monitoring them, they are absolutely clueless when it comes to managing the User owned device like Mobiles , Tablets and personal Computers. It’s like putting 3 locks on your main door but leaving your Windows wide open. As a result , the User Devices constitute the biggest threat to Companies in terms of data loss and Cyber Crimes.

Now there is a Way !  A Cloud based Solution from Microsoft , which is a combination of 3 essential services , addresses this problem in an elegant and cost effective manner and  offers a Comprehensive  Solution for  end to end Security for Mobile Devices and even Corporate PCs. And being subscription based Cloud Service , it is possible for even Companies with as low as 5 users to adopt this Solution.

Windows Server 2003 will soon be End Of Life.. your Options?

Windows Server 2003 will be End Of Life on 14th July , 2015. It means Microsoft will STOP releasing Security Patches for it. That would mean:

a) Server will be open to massive attacks

b) New release of Server Applications will not work

c) Organizations will be non- compliant . Various legislations make it mandatory for Organizations to be compliant.

In such a case , if your Organization is running a Windows Server 2003, what are your options? Clearly you need to plan to move from Windows Server 2003 at the earliest . So that part is clear . Now what are your options?

To help you take an informed decision, some of the options have been discussed here:
